I’m Realizing That My Skincare Routine Needs to Change as I Get Older
Until recently, my morning skincare routine was very simple. After applying my skincare products, I would finish with sunscreen and a tone-up cream, and that was usually enough for the entire day. I rarely touched up my makeup because I didn’t like the feeling of layering more sunscreen over it. It often felt heavy and uncomfortable.
But this summer has felt different.

These days, I spend most of my time moving between air-conditioned indoor spaces and the intense heat outside. I’ll leave a cool building, open my car door, and step into a car that’s been sitting under the hot summer sun. The moment I get inside, it feels like the trapped heat instantly dries out my skin.
Inside, the air conditioning leaves my skin feeling dry. Outside, the strong sunlight and heat add another layer of stress. Even during a short drive, my skin starts to feel tight and dehydrated.
I don’t remember noticing this as much a few years ago.
Lately, I’ve been thinking that as I get older, my skin has become more sensitive to changes in the environment.
Because of that, I’ve decided to make a small change to my routine.
At night, I still enjoy layering a few essences and serums before finishing with a moisturizer. My skin feels like it can really recover while I sleep.
In the morning, though, I prefer to keep my routine simple with lightweight skincare, sunscreen, and a tone-up cream. But I’ve realized that my skin may need a little extra protection throughout the day.
That’s why I decided to order a sunscreen stick that can be applied over makeup.
I haven’t tried it yet, so I can’t say whether I’ll love it or not. I’ll need to use it for a while before I can honestly share my thoughts.
But one thing has already changed.
Instead of worrying about whether reapplying sunscreen will slightly affect my makeup, I’m starting to think it’s much more important to protect my skin.
As we get older, it’s not just our skin that changes. The seasons change, our environment changes, and even our daily routines change.
Maybe our skincare routine should change with them, too.
Once I’ve had a chance to test the sunscreen stick for a few days, I’ll come back and share an honest review, including how it feels over makeup, whether it keeps my skin hydrated, and if the cooling effect is really worth it.
