Stop Leaving Your Skincare Out

How I Protect My Skincare from Sunlight and Dust

There was one thing that always bothered me about my bedroom.

Every morning, I open the windows, shake out my bedding, make the bed, and leave the windows open for at least 10 minutes—sometimes even 30 minutes—so fresh air can circulate through the room.

Then I keep the blinds open all day.

I know some people prefer to keep their bedrooms dark, but I’m the opposite. I love letting natural sunlight hit my bed because it keeps the sheets feeling fresh and dry. It’s just one of those little routines that makes me feel good.

The problem?

My vanity sits right next to my bed.

That means every time I leave the blinds open, all of my skincare products are exposed to sunlight too.

I thought about moving my vanity, but honestly, my room layout just doesn’t work any other way.

On top of that, my vanity is pretty small.

It only has one shallow drawer, which is where I keep my makeup. Most of my skincare bottles are too tall to fit inside, so they always had to stay on top of the vanity.

That meant they were constantly exposed to sunlight, and they collected dust every single day.

No matter how often I wiped everything down, dust would always come back.

One day I finally decided to try something different.

I bought a deep plastic storage container with a lid and put all of my skincare products inside.

Now I keep the container under my vanity.

Every morning and every night, I simply pull it out, open the lid, do my skincare routine, close it again, and slide it back underneath.

It sounds like such a small change…

but I honestly love it.

First, I don’t have to worry as much about my skincare sitting in direct sunlight all day.

Second, the bottles stay much cleaner because they’re protected from dust.

Before, I was constantly picking up bottles that had been sitting out all day collecting dust. Even if you wash your hands before skincare, it never really made sense to me to keep touching dusty bottles and then touching my face.

Now everything stays much cleaner, and that actually gives me more peace of mind.

Another unexpected bonus?

My vanity finally looks clean.

Instead of seeing skincare bottles everywhere, the surface is almost empty. I can even use it as a desk when I need to.

The whole room feels calmer and more organized, and I didn’t have to buy an expensive organizer or completely rearrange my bedroom.

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

If your vanity gets a lot of sunlight or you’re tired of constantly dusting your skincare products, try storing them in a covered container instead of leaving them out all the time.

It has made my skincare routine feel cleaner, simpler, and honestly… much more enjoyable.
